Celebrating its 35th Year in Business, Cameo Pools Rallies its Partners and Local Home Builder Taylor Morrison to build a swimming pool for local girl with special needs
“Taylor’s Boundless Pool” Will Break Ground July 17th
Mesa, Ariz., July 3, 2012 – To mark its 35th year in business, family owned and operated Mesa-based Cameo Custom Pools and Landscaping today announced its “Taylor’s Boundless Pool” project, a poignant local fundraising campaign to provide a swimming pool for a deserving young Gilbert girl with many special needs.
Taylor Bayer, 13, was born with Down Syndrome. At three months of age, she underwent open-heart surgery to correct congenital heart defects. Within her first few years of life, Taylor was also diagnosed with Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes, autism, sensory integration disorder and hypothyroidism. In 2011 she developed glaucoma and after 9 surgeries, is now legally blind.
Housebound and 100% dependent on her parents and caregivers, Taylor needs adequate exercise to boost her body’s circulation, stabilize blood glucose levels and maintain a healthy weight. Swimming is an ideal form of exercise for her as she is unable to walk without assistance, but can float and move her arms and legs easily in the water. Without an easily accessible backyard swimming pool, Taylor has been unable to enjoy playtime or exercise outside, particularly during the hot Arizona summer.
When Cameo Pools owners Steven Vollaro and Larry Duffy learned of Taylor’s story they immediately jumped at the chance to help Taylor’s parents, Matt and Alice Bayer, in their efforts to improve the quality of life for their daughter.
“We knew immediately that this was a family we wanted to help,” said Vollaro. “We were deeply moved by the care and attention that Taylor requires on a daily basis, and the dedication and love she receives from her parents. As a 35-year-old company with great partners and relationships in the community, we felt fortunate to be in a position to help.”
Cameo Pools offered to provide no-cost design, engineering, coordination and project supervision for a swimming pool that would meet Taylor’s special needs, including a handrail and Baja step for easier entry and exit, a smooth interior finish and water features and mosaics to stimulate Taylor’s hearing and sense of touch. Vollaro and Duffy then asked each of their vendors and subcontractors to participate in the campaign by offering discounted or free labor and parts.
To date, 18 businesses along with Cameo Pools and Phoenix home builder Taylor Morrison have signed on to help, lowering the current total cost of the pool from over $30,000 to less than $15,000.
Taylor Morrison, builder of the Bayer family’s Stratland Estates home in Gilbert, is contributing $5,000 to a charitable fund for Taylor’s pool, set up through the Phoenix-based 501c3 charity Share The Well.
“When we heard about Taylor and her loving family, there really was no question that we would step in to help,” said Charlie Enochs, president of Taylor Morrison’s Arizona division. “After going through so much in her short life, helping to grant Taylor’s wish of a swimming pool was an easy decision. We can’t wait to see Taylor enjoying her new pool.”
Other businesses that have agreed to participate include:
- Paramount Pool Products
- Pentair Aquatics
- Noble Tile
- K&B Concrete

“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of kindness to our family,” said Alice Bayer. “The fact that so many people are willing to give so much to help our Taylor fills our hearts with joy. Since she was born, our number one priority has been to provide her with the best quality of life possible. Thanks to the generosity of these businesses and individuals, our dream for Taylor to have a swimming pool is becoming a reality.”
